This course will focus on the mostly modern and postmodern contribution to the literary form we call The Novel by writers from states newly liberated in Africa, newly configured in the Middle East, and newly decolonized in the Caribbean. Note: this course is designed as a companion and counterpart to the Honors course offered in the Fall of 2008, The European novel which however students need not have taken previously.
