P: BUS A200, MATH 110 or higher-level math course. Junior or senior standing. Offered to students for a minor in business. An extensive course dealing with a wide range of topics: the determinants of interest rates and the time value of money; the sources and uses of financial information; the structure, role, and regulation of the financial markets; monetary policy; the pricing of risk in the financial markets; the goals of investors; and how firms manage their financial affairs, including planning, budgeting, and decision making. The treatment of these topics will be both descriptive and analytical; there is a large vocabulary to be learned and a number of concepts and problems to be mastered. In addition, we will put this body of knowledge in the context of the current business and financial environment, both domestic and international.
