Explores the cultures and spiritual traditions of Mexico and Central America in relation to changing political economic systems since ancient times. By critically examining scholarly studies of the region alongside literary, artistic, cinematic and popular images, students will analyze how religion has helped to maintain and transform social order and power through the precolonial, colonial, independence and modern periods.
