This seminar explores the development of the Asia-Pacific War by focusing on Japanese involvement on several fronts: Japanese expansion into China, the creation of the puppet state of Manchuria, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the subsequent confrontations in the Pacific and Southeast Asian theaters. From the experiences of kamikaze, comfort women (sex slaves for military), student corps, and of the Japanese and colonial subjects, we will explore the experience of war from a variety of perspectives.
