Examination of the ideology of Israel's political parties and the nature of its parliamentary system. What is the role of personalities vs. parties? Who makes policy in Israel and what are the influences that impinge on the outcome? What is the impact of public opinion? Consider whether or not the political system has sufficient flexibility to negotiate an agreement with the Palestinians. How much influence does the US have on these decisions? Is a two state solution still possible - is it advisable? What will the impact be of economic and population growth on the parties? (Writing-intensive.) Prerequisite, Govt 290 or 291.
