Focusing on the effects of the phenomenon of Anti-Islamism or Islamophobia within the European expansion and the German, respectively European, debate on integration and multiculturalism, this course seeks to understand and reexamine notions of German national identity and gender in the light of this new era. We will be studying recent debates on integration and Islamic minority which challenge our traditional understanding of critical categories like feminism, race, and gender within the framework of Western modernity.
