India is a fascinating natural laboratory to understand colonialism, nationalism, partition, the modern state, democracy, economic development, identity politics, center-state issues as well as the relationship with the rest of Asia and the West. This course will explore the history, culture and political economy of what is today a strategically and economically vital part of the world. Prerequisite, 102.
