Examines the centrality of space and gender in the taken for granted ways we think about the world and its organization. How does gender intersect with class, race and other power relations embedded in the places where we live our daily lives? Explores how men and women come to occupy different places in the world - literally and figuratively - or occupy the same places in different ways. Case studies focus on the spatial scales of the body, home, public spaces, the workplace, borders, diasporic and spaces of migration, and the nation and state across the African Diaspora.
