Description:

Introduces the learner to special populations in health care. These are individuals who are members of a group of people who share a characteristic that causes each member to be susceptible to a particular event or health disparity. This course correlates to the content presented in Nursing II and incorporates information presented in Pharmacology II. In identifying and applying the nursing process and giving special emphasis to assessment, nutritional, mental health, health language and community considerations in the care of patients with chronic health status, specifically those experiencing threats to their psychosocial integrity, the learner will have opportunities to achieve basic competencies in patient-centered care, collaboration, quality improvement, informatics, evidence-based practice and safety. Prerequisite(s): “C” or better in: NURS 113, and NURS 117, and BIOL 252, BIOL 254.  The following prerequisite courses may be taken concurrently: PSYC 127 and NURS 127
