This course will introduce graduate students and upper level undergraduates to the most important debates in the field of Latin American History. It will provide an overview of the evolution of the (English language) historical literature on Latin America during the past three decades. It will also help students with a field in Latin American history prepare for their comprehensive examinations. The course readings have been chosen thematically and chronologically. Student will critically engage a group of monographs that stand out for their historiographical and methodological value and that will help illuminate the discussions and approaches that guide research in this field.
