This course focuses on Spanish short stories written in Spain or by Spaniards living in exile from the 1940s to the present. The course gives a panoramic vision of Spains recent history through a selection of short stories and also through the history of this genre in Spain, with a strong emphasis on women writers. We will take into consideration the main authors and movements of recent decades and analyze both the mechanisms that shape the genre, and its representations, especially in terms of gender discontinuities. The students will be exposed not only to short stories, but also to articles, films, interviews, and reflections and meditations by the writers themselves.
