This course is specifically designed to introduce students who do not have a broad background in healthcare to the basics of the industry. This course examines the organization and operation of vertically and horizontally integrated, large healthcare systems in general, as well as the unique challenges faced by vertically and horizontally integrated organizations in healthcare as compared to other industries. The roles and responsibilities of the board, management, and the medical staff are examined. Students discuss topics dealing with strategic planning and execution in the health care industry, managing in a rapidly changing environment and current issues and trends in the integration of health service delivery.
