This unit provides an introduction to law and policy in envinronmental protection, planning and management. Topics covered include the constitutional framework, the legal process, the interplay of International Commonwealth and Western Australian laws; models of policy making; the role of scientific knowledge; and policy issues such as values, ethics and equity. These concepts are applied to a range of case studies such as nature and heritage convservation, natural resources, water management, climatic change, and pollution control.
