In this course, we will be concerned with two central ideas - equal opportunity and discrimination. We will focus on what constitutes equal opportunity with respect to gender and race and how best to achieve it, as well as what constitutes sexual and racial discrimination and how best to avoid it. We will begin by considering arguments of those who hold that feminist causes discriminate against men and that affirmative action programs discriminates against whites, and then look at opposing arguments.
