This module deals with the architectural history of Dublin, tracing its development from a medieval settlement to a modern capital and analysing the impact of historical events on the architecture of the city. Prominent buildings and sites will be described and analysed and the work of individual architects will be critically examined. Examination of local historical factors will be supplemented by consideration of international trends in architecture and urban planning. Teaching will consist of lectures, site-visits and student presentations and students will become familiarised with the multi-faceted built fabric of the city.
