This class examines the dynamics of poverty in Africa. It highlights on the complex nature of the social, political, and economic causes of African poverty and their implications for human development. Competing theories and prognostications on African poverty will be examined. Furthermore, local and international attempts to tackle Africa's poverty problem will also be interrogated, focusing on a wide range of poverty-reduction strategies that have been developed over the past five decades.
