Emphasis on modern technologies to increase quality, shelf life, transportability, yield, pest resistance, growing season, and soil type tolerances. Includes technologies such as genetic engineering, hybridizing and breeding that raise ethical issues about their long-term impact on humans, other species, and the environment.
