A survey of developments in Western music from ancient Greece to the early twentieth century, this music history sequence centers upon major historical periods and the lives and thoughts of representative composers. Illustrated lectures include style analysis, prescribed listening, and reading. Prerequisite: MUS 203 or permission of instructor. MUS 301 offered each fall; MUS 302 offered each spring.
