Corequisite: EDUC 646 Students will explore the history and current purposes of public secondary schools and the school systems of the United States, focusing upon the diversity and complexity of American society. The place of the schools in the fashioning of an informed citizenry will be examined. A study of the ways in which secondary curriculum, school organization, control and governance of education, and the nature of teaching and learning produce many tensions will be studied in light of the school settings in which students are placed.
