Prerequisite: ENGL 104; Minimum grade C- This course introduces the student to the study of the English language as a cultural subject, as a means to understanding how usage changes, how vocabulary changes, how orthography changes, and how these changes are effected. The history of the English language will also be studied along with the various linguistic influences impacting its development. Along with the historical study, the class will consider the development of English grammar and punctuation. Note: English majors may take this course as a capstone course.
