Prerequisite: ENGL 101; Minimum grade C- An interdisciplinary approach to the Age of Reason, this course emphasizes the literature (Dryden, Swift, Pope, Voltaire, Johnson, etc.), but also considers social history (pre- evolutionary France), political theory (Montesquieu and Rousseau primarily), religion (mainstream Protestantism vs. radical Protestantism and Deism) and art (in France, Baroque and Rococo styles; in England, Hogarth).
