Examines the ethnic and class history of North Adams, and Northern Berkshire, starting with the second half of the 19th century. Investigates the industrial development of the community, the experience of the Depression, and the growth of Sprague Electric Company as the dominate employer. Concludes by reviewing the post-industrial changes in the area, the establishment of MASS MoCA and the propects for the future. Prereq: HIST 203 or HIST 204 or SOCI 100
