Explores a range of theories that aim to explain the welter of conflicting norms we call "contemporary culture" and that connect cultural norms to social practice. Basing its methods in the observation that culture is "ordinary" not a class of unique or extraordinary events, the course will proceed to analyze critically a set of case studies -- including food, theatre, fashion, music, video games, and film -- for their agenda to inculcate a set of norms in their participation.
