Description:
This advanced level course will focus on health care reimbursement, utilize advanced inpatient coding knowledge to understand payment methodologies in the acute care setting. The student will study the prospective payment system, uniform hospital discharge data set, and the assignment of diagnosis related groups. The student will study reimbursement issues related to the importance of the medical record such as bundling and optimization. Two class hours. Prerequisite: HIM 110 with a minimum grade of C, or 3 to 5 years inpatient coding experience, or permission of instructor. 1 Credit.
