Stresses the connection between contemporary mathematics and modern society by identifying important social problems and conflicts and applying quantitative methods to solve these problems or resolve conflicts. Utilizes the notion of "enlightened citizenry", when students acquire broad knowledge of social problems and are able to apply quantitative methods to make personal judgements and decisions as well as challenge our basic assumptions regarding a social setting.
