This course examines the operations of the criminal justice system with special emphasis on the role and responsibilities of police officers. Focuses on the legal basis for law enforcement operations starting with the United States Constitution and specifically, exploring the NYS Penal Law, Civil Procedure Law, Vehicle and Traffic and Juvenile Procedures. Routine patrol responsibilities are also explained. Must be sworn police officer or sheriff's deputy employed or sponsored by a law enforcement agency. Forty class hours. 13 Credits.
