Prerequisite: SOC 100This course will focus primarily on the sociological process ofimmigration from a comparative perspective. Attention will begiven to the consistencies of immigration, despite population,destination, and time period, as well as emphasize the differencesof the immigrant experience, which help highlight how politics, theeconomy, and culture shape this dynamic process. Issues such as theconstruction of race, nationalism, globalization, and technology andhow they in turn shape the immigrant's experience will be covered,with emphasis on how laws and social norms shape our commondiscourse on immigration.
