Fulfills a course requirement in the Chinese Core ConcentrationPrerequisite: Placement by examination or successful completion (C orhigher) of the appropriate Elementary I language course, Not open tonative speakers of MandarinThe second course in a two sequence in first year modern StandardChinese (Mandarin) for students who have no previous exposureto the Chinese language. Students are introduced to the soundsof Mandarin, basic grammar, vocabulary, and the Chinese writingsystem. By the end of the second semester, students will havecompleted training in basic conversation skills, writing and reading,and they will be able to conduct simple conversations on a widevariety of topics in Chinese.
