Fulfills a course requirement in the Chinese Core ConcentrationPrerequisite: Not open to native speakers of MandarinThis is the first course of a two semester sequence in the first yearmodern Standard Chinese (Mandarin) for students who have noprevious exposure to the Chinese language. Students are introduced tothe sounds of Mandarin, basic grammar, vocabulary, and the Chinesewriting system. By the end of the first semester, students are expectedto be able to conduct basic conversations, read simple texts orconversations, and write simple sentences in Chinese.
