What can discovering and examining the range of indigenous, diasporic, and emerging languages in California tell us about our own relationships to language and languages, individually and collectively? This course looks at these questions, investigating, through its survey of California’s languages, some fundamental linguistic and sociolinguistic ideas about language and languages.
