Prerequisites: CHEM 222 or 224/226; PHYS 112 or 114; MATH 162 or 264 or equivalent. Lecture and discussion course covering principles and applications of thermodynamics and kinetic theory and emphasizing the laws of thermodynamics and statistical theory and their ramifications for equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems. Outcome: Students will acquire fundamental knowledge of work, heat, their interconversions and the relationships between entropy, free energy and heat capacity.
