This course is designed to provide students with an analysis of the symbolic and linguistic structure of American Sign Language (ASL) and English including other spoken languages, other sign languages, and other related sign systems. Topics include phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, grammar and discourse. This course examines the bilingual and bicultural practices, language acquisition, sociolinguistics and related research. This course is intended for students who plan to transfer and/or are interested in learning about the linguistic aspects of American Sign Language.
