This course will look at the history, economics, technology, and public policy debates surrounding the modern hospital. We will explore the hospital's role in health care delivery in rural and urban settings, in medical schools, and in mental asylums and other specialized hospitals. Special attention will be paid to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, America's top-ranked for 20 years and counting.
