All classes are conducted in Portuguese. This course introduces students to the basic skills in reading, writing, and speaking the Portuguese language. Basic texts, films, and folklore are used to acquaint students with Portugal and Brazil, as well as the cultural influences of Africa on Brazilian society. Students are encouraged to speak from the very beginning of the course, and class participation is a must. Language lab is required. Prerequisite: 210.177. May not be taken satisfactory/unsatisfactory.
