(Same as ANTH 271) This course is a general introduction to African culture and history through the medium of movies by African filmmakers. Students will watch over a dozen important movies from Africa. These screenings are supplemented with appropriate readings, online resources, lecture and discus-sion. Students will learn aspects of African history and ethnology while also gaining the aesthetic and intellectual tools to appreciate African cinema.
