This course focuses on varying topics in pre-1800 American literature and culture, such as exploration and captivity narratives, Native American literature, the Puritan tradition, the enlightenment and revolutionary eras in America, the trans- and circum-Atlantic world, the slave trade, early-American print culture (including the novel), gender studies, and/or selected authors.
