Archaeological and textual evidence for selected early empires of pre-Columbian America and the Ancient Near East will be used to illuminate cross-cultural similarities and differences in the ways complex pre-capitalistic societies acquired, produced, exchanged, and distributed wealth. Prerequisites: upper-division standing. ANTH 3 is recommended. (Formerly known as ANGN 130.) Credit not allowed for both ANGN 130 and ANAR 184.
