Concepts related to health promotion, health maintenance, and disease prevention are analyzed from theoretical and evidenced based perspectives. Interventions for promotion of optimal health are designed with particular consideration for age and cultural differences. A co-requisite clinical of a family based practicum allows the student to explore possibilities for enacting the advanced practice role outside traditional biomedical settings and within the context of families and culturally specific beliefs.
