This option is the one most commonly used by doctoral students who are interested in studying a particular topic through independent readings and other activities. The specific nature of the study and criteria for evaluation need to be articulated in writing within the first two weeks of the semester by using a specific Independent Study Form that requires the signature of the faculty member supervising the study, as well as the program chair and associate dean of graduate studies.
