A general overview of the chemistry of our environment, focusing on pollution of the atmosphere and hydrosphere, hazardous wastes, heavy metals, and pesticides. Topics of current interest such as the greenhouse effect, stratospheric ozone depletion, acid deposition, and indoor air pollution are emphasized. Also the systems used by the City of New York for provision of drinking water, treatment of waste water, and disposal of solid waste are considered.
