This course is the study of how social diversity and inequality shape the way criminal behavior is defined and controlled through the application of the criminal law and criminal justice system. Attention is given to the disparity of criminal offending, victimization, and criminal justice processing across demographic groups as well as explanations for observed disparities. The course also explores subordinate group members as criminal justice professionals. Prerequisite: CJ 261 , CJ 262 , CJ 378 . Credit 3.
