This course examines the intellectual origins of postmodernism in architecture through close studies of those architects who first dared to confront history as an intellectual problem and not merely as a stylistic question, including Labatut, Rogers, Moore, Norberg-Schulz, Frampton, Rykwert, Alexander and others. The course also explores how these architects interpreted the work of thinkers such as Bergson, Maritain, Ricoeur, Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, Arendt, Gadamer, and Bachelard.
