Introduces concepts and physical principles that govern radioactivity and the interactions of radiation with matter, the principles, operation and quality control for non-imaging, gas-filled detectors and non-imaging scintillation detectors; also the principles and applications of statistics as they relate to radiation detection and counting. Prerequisite: Admission to NMMI program; MT 150 or MA 109; BIO 137 and BIO 139; or consent of instructor. Corequisite: NMMI 140 and NMMI 142 and NMMI 150. Prerequisite or corequisite: CHE 104 and either PH 171 or PH 172. Laboratory, Lecture: 2 credits (45 contact hours).
