A continuation of SPAN 101. Course Objectives (1) Define and translate assigned vocabulary (2) Use morphological and syntactic structures from each assigned chapter in conversational settings and on quizzes and exams (3) Demonstrate level-appropriate oral and written communication skills in Spanish in order to engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions (adapted from ACTFL Standard 1.1) (4) Respond appropriately in writing to questions on assigned readings (5) Compose short paragraphs in response to prompts (6) Identify and explain issues related to language variation and the nature of language in terms of syntactic, morphological, phonological, semantic and pragmatic differences (7) Discuss topics related to political, social and cultural issues and events in Spanish-speaking countries
