The course identifies and explores the political, governmental and community conceptualizations of problems and solutions in an urban environment. The course will focus on the interaction between elected officials, community groups and government leaders. Pre-requisite: POLS 202 Course Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: (1) Describe the historical, legal and social basis for state and municipal political participation (2) Explain the politics- administration dichotomy (3) Identify the economic, political and social influences on the development of municipalities and urban areas (4) Describe the role of politics in the structure and function of governmental units (5) Research, analyze and present issues, policies and solutions related to public administration's interaction with politics
