Exchange relations have been part of human interactions for thousands of years. This course examines the history of such relations and the role of money as a medium of exchange. We will discuss the socio-cultural and the political-economic aspects of this history. Our journey will take us from the days of beads, shells and trinkets to present day uses of money in modern society. Course Objectives (1) Understand the exchange relations that have been part of human interactions for thousands of years. (4) Compare exchanges of beads, shells, and trinkets to the complicated financial uses of money in today's society.
