Course Objectives (1) Understand the history of Europe from the beginning of the twentieth century through World War I, the rise of totalitarianism, the impact of a global depression, a second global conflict, and the Cold War era. (2) Relate these events and topics to understand the recent upheavals in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
