The theory and practice of teaching correct dance techniques in order to assess and train students from low levels through advanced levels in a logical, progressive, and responsible manner. Course Objectives (1) Students will become acquainted with current issues and modalities in the field of teaching, especially dance teaching. Some of these include the "new pedagogy" vs. the "old pedagogy," "age appropriate" dance education, and multi-cultural issues in dance education. (2) Students will bring their education from various parts of the dance curriculum to apply to teaching. (3) Students will find a more body-knowledgeable approach to technique, whatever the style of dance. (4) Students will search for their own voices as teachers, using their backgrounds, experiences, strengths, creativity, feelings, opinions, personalities to provide self-assessment and self-empowerment. (5) Students will improve their own skills in terms of observing, analyzing, and appreciating dance works.
