6450. Advanced Solid State Physics. 3 hours. A two-course sequence designed to prepare graduate students for research in several areas of current interest in solid state physics. Topics include lattice vibration and phonon spectra; band theory, including calculational schemes, symmetry considerations and application to metals and semiconductors; optical and magnetic properties of solids. Prerequisite(s): PHYS 5510 and 5450, or consent of department.
