4450. Reading and Writing (Birth through Grade 4). 3 hours. (3;0;0) Examines theoretical and practical aspects of emergent literacy. The course focuses on developmentally appropriate practices that foster motivated, strategic readers and writers. Emphasizes development of early language and pre-literacy skills, common school literacy practices, parental/social influences and affective elements related to early reading. Includes 1 additional hour of field experience. Prerequisite(s): admission to the teacher education program and DFEC 3123.
